Phew...
I am now officially a Saint after the three-day Orientation at SAJC and yes, it is my turn to be donning that "nice uniform":
I guess, the only bane is that I have to put on that tie all the time. In the warm and humid Singapore, it's equal to torturing yourself. Hmm... Frankly speaking, I do not really think I look nice in that "nice uniform." What an irony. I look rather funny. Like, the uniform is nice, but I just don't have the 'substance' to carry the uniform. Haha.
SA has this whole week dedicated to lectures alone, maybe because about 40% of us are new and are not used to the environment yet. There is this memorable quote I heard today from my Geography lecturer, Mr Lian, who said, "... because when you are in a JC, there is no such thing as 'kiasuism'. You really have to depend on yourself when it comes to studying. At the end of the day, you do it for yourself. Don't be afraid when your friends laugh at you. We shall see who (literally) will have the last laugh."
I think, what he said indeed made sense. He laughs best who laughs last, as the saying goes. Yes, friends are important. But still, eventually, so are your results if not more. You should never jeopardize your own academic goals by following your friends' advice not to study so hard. Your friends are not going to take the exams with you. You yourself are.
We have to be separated with our friends sooner or later. But the separation might not be for good. I mean, I might even meet Bruno, Wanlin or any of those friends I've made during my JC years again in the University. That, is of course, provided we end up reading Law at NUS lah. Haha.
Meeting friends is a part of your life. But to part with them is the other side of the coin. It goes two-way, you see. There isn't really much we can do about that, albeit we can always cherish the moments spent together.
All right, enough of me. I still have a Literature homework for tomorrow. I have to scrutinize this poem by Simon Armitage titled Kid and boy, I also have to read Marianne Chong's Physical Geography book for the day after tomorrow's lecture.
See you all!
Love,
Perd.
